Bank Iowa is taking steps to ensure the safety of customer information in wake of a data breach at Heartland Payment Systems
Customers are encouraged to take action as well.
Bank Iowa has been notified that a data breach has occurred at Heartland Payment Systems, a company that processes credit and debit cards nationwide, mostly for restaurants and small businesses. While data breaches do not always lead to fraud and rarely lead to identity theft, there is a potential risk of fraudulent card activity on compromised accounts. In response to this data breach, we are taking additional steps to ensure our customers’ information is safe. Bank Iowa customers whose cards are at risk have received a letter and may contact the bank to order a new debit card at no charge.
As a customer, you can help protect your account. We encourage you to monitor your statements thoroughly. If you have not already registered for an online account, we recommend you do so. This will allow you to monitor your account as often as you’d like. If you see suspicious activity on your account, please notify us immediately.
All customers of Bank Iowa have free access to America’s premier identity theft education and resolution services, through Identity Theft 911. Proactive credit and fraud subscription services are also available.
For more information, contact your local Bank Iowa location or visit www.2008breach.com, a website developed by Heartland Payment Systems to educate people on this incident.
